​Michael Doane is a leading authority on enterprise applications. He advises clients on strategies, implementation and integration with a focus upon methods for deriving continuous and measurable value from enterprise applications investments. 

​He is the author of The SAP Blue Book, a Concise Business Guide to the World of SAP as well as The SAP Green Book, A Business Guide for Effectively Managing the SAP Lifecycle.

With a focus upon advanced governance and organizational architectures, Mr. Doane provided key differentiation to CGI’s global SAP practice.  He also continued providing seminars, public speaking, and maintenance of his blog.

In these years, Mr Doane shifted focus to highly neglected post-implementation strategies and developed a number of assets to help clients refresh their SAP experience and move into a more business-centric mode of operations.

In addition to helping clients with consulting and workshops, Mr Doane completed three webinar/white paper campaigns for SAP:  The End User Experience, Thrive after Go Live, and Technical Breakthroughs. He also twice keynoted at the ASUG SAPPHIRE pre-conference on Centers of Excellence.

For an SAP services partner, VSS, Mr Doane was directly involved in business development, thought leadership, and service delivery quality for SAP projects in the mid-market.

During this period, Mr Doane was also an expert witness in two SAP project litigations.

Founder of firm which provided disintermediated research regarding the field and marketing performance of leading service providers.  Completed studies of SAP, Oracle, and PeopleSoft systems integrators, application development & maintenance providers, CRM systems integrators, and application outsourcing providers. Clients included Accenture, IBM, Deloitte, Hewlett Packard, Perot Systems, Infosys, and Kraft Foods.

META Group, Inc.                                                                                                March 2001 to April 2005

Senior Vice President. Conceived, launched, and managed Professional Services Strategies, the first and only analyst practice dedicated to professional services firms. Coverage included:  best practices for services delivery, market positioning and messaging, competitive analysis, pricing/costing strategies (from fixed price to gain sharing), field performance ratings, client buying patterns & behaviours, and strategic positioning.

In addition to bringing annual subscription revenues to $1M annually (with only two analysts), was in the top five analysts (of 125 total) in consulting fees all four years with a total of nearly $1M in fees.

Also pursued ERP research in the realm of best implementation practices and best practices for post-implementation ERP organizations, including the creation and delivery of readiness/maturity assessments across the ERP life-cycle.

Expert witness in a successful defense of Cap Gemini against a suit brought by Bridgestone Firestone (regarding SAP consulting).

Global SAP implementation strategy for a $500M firm seeking to implement SAP worldwide.

Expert witness in a successful SAP litigation in which his client received a refund of all amounts paid to an SAP consulting firm in the course of its SAP R/3 implementation in addition to all costs incurred for Mr. Doane’s services.

Led the national SAP practice which was a standout in the U.S. midmarket. Grew the practice from 25 to 200 consultants over two years. 

Two national seminar tours- Are You Ready for SAP? An Executive Seminar (15 seminars, 10 cities)
